I woke up early this morning. As I lay in bed I hoped that the grey clouds would spare me from a day of suffering, but an hour later the blue sky peeked through.

I made thick coffee, bloodlike when I poured it into my cup. Even mixed with milk it coated my mouth with a coffee residue so strong no number of cigarettes managed to remove it.

Only 10am and already the heat of the day will soon force me to retreat inside, closing the doors and windows and hope that the thick walls will protect me from the threatened forecast of 41.

bom.gov.au will keep me updated all day as the temperature rises from 23 to 24 to 27 and upwards. I should go to the beach. Immerse my body in the cool water.

Days like this makes me long for pleasant October days in Helsingborg, where the crisp wind bite your cheeks without hurting.
